If you currently have a VW and you came into more money, would you get an Audi?

This isn't simply about VW buyers moving to Audi after they get a new job, promotion, win money, etc. This question is more about whether people are more likely to get a luxury segment car produced by a parent/sibling company when they are ready to move from their current brand?

Is a Honda owner more likely to move to Acura? Is a Mini owner more likely to move to BMW?

Where does a Ferrari owner move up to, outside of higher up on the company's waiting list?

Welp I own a Subaru and if I came in to more money I'd be driving a faster subaru.

Well, I drive a '97 Ford Fiesta 1.4 now. If I won the lottery the first car I'd buy would be a '86 VW Golf GTi 16V or a Gilbern Invader.

And the best part it is, it'd be my current subaru with a new built shortblock! If I came in to enough cash though I'd get an E30 M3 that had no engine or the S14 was busted and stick an S54 in it.

2000 Peugeot 106 1.1 here. If I had the cash, my first purchase would be a 205 GTi, followed by a 106 Rallye S1. I'd probably top it off with a modern Jag XF estate for the sake of being able to move crap from place to place.

Here's an idea: buy an Alfa 159 Estate, then pay someone to completely redo the chassis and most of the mechanical bits to make it fun to drive. Now that'd be a car.

I'd rather have a Lamborghini Espada though.. heh.. I do love the front of the 159 Estate, but.. nah. Not for me it ain't.

I can hardly blame you for wanting an Espada over a mediocre - though utterly beautiful, to my eyes - Alfa!

We have a Gilbern GT at the shop. We are trying to find a client to restore it. Gilbern is one of those odd little manufacturers that explain my love for British cars.

Don't get me wrong, the 159 is one of the prettiest cars made the last twenty years, it's just that I'm weird. I'd buy a VW Passat W8 Estate instead, no matter how shitty they are.

Wow.. Gilbern GT? One of 280 made or so then. Do you know if it's got the BMC A-series engine (that one COULD have a supercharger as well) or the Coventry Climax 1.1L?

Could surely have some later engine as well.. but :P

From what we know from the numbers...it had a BMC mill in it. But it is missing. I think I will do a post about it this evening. I think it is a great car for a Brit Restomod. With that fiberglass body, tube chassis and a Rover 3.5 V8...that would be something special.

A rover 3.5 in a GT would be awesome, but would it fit with the Austin A35 front suspension?

I've got this wild idea in me head about a Gilbern Invader MkIII with an Audi 4.2 under the bonnet ;)

When I was looking over the car, the front end in this one was off of an MGA/B. Lever shock/upper A-arm and the 4 piece lower A-arm. Which is what made me think MGB V8/Gilbern GTV8

Huh.. Someone did a swap? Or did the A35 have that type of front end? Ahh well, stuff that V8 in there mate, the 3.5 was/is a rather great engine.

I thought the A35 front end was similar to the Spridget front end. Were Gilbern GTs spec'ed with A35 front ends?

Hey man, this is the first one I have ever seen, so who knows? Wikipedia says they initially came with A35 front ends. I am wondering if along with switching from A series to B series engines, they also switched the front ends. Hmmm...wondering if we may have a oddball late production vehicle.
